Get to Know the Half Moon Motel
The Half Moon Motel has been a long time fixture in this community. We are recently under new ownership and management. While the management is different, our goal of providing cozy and clean lodging accommodations remain the same.
We’ve recently started remodeled the rooms with a touch of paint, new flooring, lighting, artwork, and soft and comfortable bedding materials. Our goal is to create a comfortable space that will help you get a restful night’s sleep every time you stay with us.
The Half Moon Motel is in Montcalm County, which is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. The county seat is Stanton and located just a short distance from there. The county is named for General Marquis Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, French military commander of troops in Canada during the French and Indian War.
Stanton was organized in 1860 when the people of Montcalm County voted to move the county seat here from Greenville, which was the original county seat from 1840. At that time, the County Board purchased 40 acres from Fred Hall of Ionia and named the city “Fred” in his honor. The family of Levi Camburn was the first to settle here and he became its first postmaster on March 10, 1862. The city was renamed for Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton in 1863. Stanton was platted in 1865, incorporated as a village in 1869, and as a city in 1881.
